A Hong Kong famous painter, Liu Yu and his daughter Hao Mei, painted a large pavilion painting to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the reunification of Hong Kong with China.
Spanning over an area of 7.1m x 2.8m, the painting,《盛世明珠》, it currently hold the record of being the largest oil painting. It also hold the record for the most people painted in an oil painting. It depicts the history of Hong Kong. In 1997, a painting that marked the reunification of HK with China had a price tag of 25 million HK Dollars.
《盛世明珠》highlights the important individuals in HK. This included 500 celebrities, state leaders, Hong Kong SAR Government officials, successful businessmen, sport star. It also presented new iconic landmarks in Hong Kong, such as Golden Bauhinia Square, Zhongying international financial centre, the Yangtze Building and HK Disneyland.
Among the celebrities included in the painting are: Liza Wang, Lydia Shum, Chow Yun-Fatt, Aaron Kwok, Joey Yung, Kelly Cheng, Sir Run Run Shaw, etc.
